Topic Validation & General Tasks

At Sparrow Ventures, the venture builder and capital of the Migros Group, I was responsible for developing and validating early-stage business ideas (Fintech, Last-Mile, Digital Health, Sustainability & Circular Economy and Commerce), and co-leading selected ventures through their initial growth phase. My work combined structured strategic analysis with operational execution across key areas such as market research, financial modelling, growth strategy, stakeholder management, and team development.

  • In the initial phases of venture development, I validated new business opportunities from scratch. This included:

    • Designing and executing structured topic validations, with clear hypotheses and go/no-go criteria

    • Conducting customer interviews and market research to evaluate demand, pain points, and market potential

    • Building business cases and financial models, including unit economics, pricing logic, EBITDA projections and margin analysis

    • Preparing complete pitch decks for internal decision-making, based on frameworks such as the Lean Canvas and Sparrow’s Topic Validation approach

    • Presenting and defending recommendations directly to Sparrow’s management and corporate stakeholders within the Migros ecosystem

These validations served as the basis for deciding whether to build a new company – requiring both analytical depth and clear strategic storytelling.

  • For validated topics with greenlight from management, I took on responsibility for translating strategy into execution. In one venture, I even led the early phase. My focus areas included:

    • Developing the overall growth, including MVP scope and GTM

    • Defining brand identity, tone of voice, naming and visual assets

    • Structuring customer acquisition channels, performance tracking, and operational processes (CRM, support, analytics)

    • Supporting hiring processes and onboarding the initial team

    • Setting and tracking KPIs and OKRs to measure traction and inform iteration

    • Facilitating internal alignment and reporting across Sparrow, external partners, and corporate stakeholders

These roles required a combination of structured planning, cross-functional coordination and hands-on execution in a fast-paced startup setting.

  • Throughout all projects, I worked closely with internal and external stakeholders. This included:

    • Coordinating joint campaign planning and strategic reviews with partners such as Migros Bank

    • Leading stakeholder updates, aligning product and marketing strategies with legal, design, and compliance requirements

    • Facilitating workshops and retrospectives across different teams to align goals, challenges, and next steps

This aspect of my role helped ensure that every project remained strategically grounded and practically executable across a corporate innovation environment.

  • Beyond individual ventures, I contributed to the development of Sparrow’s internal frameworks and toolkits:

    • Co-developed several templates used in the validation process, including unit economics models, pitch formats, and interview analysis structures

    • Helped refine Sparrow’s internal methodology for topic validation, including process improvements and internal documentation

    • Ran internal workshops and training sessions on topics such as growth marketing, customer-centric validation, and KPI-driven execution

These contributions helped professionalize Sparrow’s venture-building approach and supported the broader team in applying strategic and data-informed decision-making.
